EV data methodology

This page defines the standard the database is being migrated toward. Legacy records that have not completed source-level review are labeled on their vehicle pages.

Source hierarchy

1. Government certification and regulatory sources, including EPA and fueleconomy.gov.
2. Official manufacturer specifications, pricing, and technical documentation.
3. Independent instrumented testing from clearly identified publications.
4. Aggregated owner observations shown separately with sample size and conditions.

Normalization

Range must identify its test cycle. Battery figures distinguish usable and gross capacity when known. Price identifies market, currency, model year, trim, and whether destination fees are included. Charging results identify starting charge, ending charge, temperature, charger capability, and whether they are manufacturer claims or measurements.

Calculated values

Efficiency shown on legacy profiles is range divided by listed battery capacity and is explicitly an estimate. Ownership-cost tools expose mileage, energy prices, maintenance, insurance, incentives, depreciation, and time horizon so readers can replace defaults.

Verification cadence

Actively sold vehicles and incentive data should be checked at least quarterly and after significant model-year or policy changes. Material changes receive a new verification date and revision note.
